Hello, welcome to Mature Beauty Personal Shopper!
Let’s see, what can I share about myself…
Well, my name is Ron Carnavil and I live in the Philadelphia area.
I’ve been working in the beauty industry for over 25 years. I received my cosmetology license in the mid-80’s and worked in salons primarily offering hair services. However, the longer I stayed in the business the more it dawned on me that my real passion was in makeup and skincare, not hair. I could look at a woman and know exactly what color foundation would match her skin tone, and what lipstick would be the ideal color. So, I eventually switched over to skin and makeup. And as a skincare specialist (an esthetician), I began doing more facials, makeup applications, eyebrow and lash tinting, and face and body waxing.
It was at that time I began to realize that skincare was the most important. Because it doesn’t matter what kind of makeup you use, if the skin isn’t in good shape then the makeup will not look its best. Skin is like a canvas on which you paint. It needs to be primed so that the makeup goes on smoothly. Also, the more you care for your skin, your makeup application will be minimal.
My outlook on makeup is less is more.
In the mid-90’s, I decided to leave the hair salon environment and move specifically into the makeup industry, working for different companies as a makeup artist and esthetician.
Some of the companies I’ve worked with:
During that time, I also worked as a freelance makeup artist for various photographers doing makeup on models and actors for their composites and head shots. In addition, I had my own business doing makeup for weddings.
In 2005, I switched my focus again by taking a job as a fragrance specialist for the Italian jewelry company who also makes the most gorgeous fragrances, Bvlgari. I worked for them for 10 years. To date, that has been my longest standing job. I was so proud to represent that company because they did everything first-class. However things drastically changed when they were bought out by another company, so I resigned.
In 2015, I left the department store environment and I began working for more intimate specialty companies such as, Ulta and Sephora, because they were one-stop-shopping retailers who offered everything under one roof. I could sell makeup, skincare, hair care, and fragrance. And I liked that because I was no longer married to one particular brand, I could suggest and sell many different brands to a client.
So here I am now, in 2019, with my own business as a personal shopper for mature women. And I LOVE it!
